RockSoc Venues
Below is only a small selection of the great pubs, bars, clubs and music venues that Southampton offers. Whether you are looking to headbang yourself to death or just have a quiet drink with your mates you can find it here, of course drinking is never compulsory at any RockSoc event or at any of the venues listed below.
The Shooting Star
The Shooting Star is an excellent pub. It is spacious, with a good sized beer garden and a pool table indoors. The pub has a decent selection of beers and especially cask ales and a great selection of pint cocktails which we highly recommend trying. This is also the venue where our Subliminal events take place.
The Hobbit
The Hobbit is a unique pub with a Lord of The Rings theme. The pub itself is actually quite small with some comfortable seating upstairs along with a pool table, a dartboard and a juke box. Downstairs, there's a second bar where there is usually live music. The beer garden on the other hand is large enough to get lost in with loads of seating and several sheltered areas and some amazing LOTR themed graffiti. This is also the venue where our Dominion events take place.
The Stag's
The Student's Union Pub aka The Stag's is student favourite and for good reason. Decently priced drinks, a selection of ales, ciders, and lots of other drinks, plentiful and comfortable seating, and the ease of access make this popular among many. It is the standard starting point for most Rocksoc pub crawls, but is rarely visited for extended stays. The pub can get very busy, especially during pub crawl seasons, so this might not always be the best place to plan a solid night of drinking, however it is excellent for a naughty pint between lectures or a place to pop in to after a long day's work.
The Rockstone
The Rockstone is a vibrant city centre pub serving a spectacular selection of craft beer, real ale, continental lager and cider from dozens of taps. They also offer a huge selection of wine and spirits. The food is always mind-blowing having arguably the best burgers in Southampton, the staff are always helpful and up for a laugh (at your expense when you can't handle the quantity of portion or the volcano burger's hot sauce), and with a menu crammed full of cracking puns, your sides will ache for weeks after your unforgettable visit. You'll leave never want to go anywhere else again.
Southwestern Arms
The Southwestern Arms is located on the far side of St Deny's train station, just over the bridge. A large outside area, excellent range of ales and drinks along with a regular Real Ale festival make this pub a reoccuring haunt for Rocksocers filling the upper floor of the pub whilst enjoying the pool table and sufficient space most pubs don't offer to societies of our size. On most nights a pizza van can be found outside which also makes the best pizza in Southampton in our humble opinion and is well worth checking out whenever you plan a trip there.
